There's a lot of misinformation flying around about The Sea Urchins. There are people out there who believe that some of the ex-Sea Urchins are now in Pram, and I also heard about someone who thought Darren Martin was the original bass player from The Sea Urchins and he was also in Friends Of The Family. I think there's some confusion here between The Sea Urchins and Delta. The Pram connection is that the original bass player from Delta, Matthew Eaton, is also in Pram. Friends Of The Family was the band Matthew and at least one other Pram member were in before Pram. The original bass player from The Sea Urchins, who played on the flexis, was not Darren Martin but Mark Bevin. As far as I'm aware there were no Sea Urchins in Friends Of The Family but I could be wrong about this. There are definitely no Sea Urchins in Pram.
A lot of people are curious about what has happened to The Sea Urchins. I heard a rumour that Bridget Duffy (organ/tambourine) runs a second-hand clothes/record shop in London and was also seen on the door at a mod night, but I'm yet to confirm whether either of these things are true. What I can confirm is that James Roberts (vocals/guitar) and Patrick Roberts (drums) are in Delta (Patrick no longer plays drums, he sings now). Robert Cooksey (lead guitar) was also in Delta for a few years. If anyone knows what has happened to him I would be interested to find out. Although the new Delta album is good, the band just don't sound the same without Robert. If he's in another band I need to know. As for Simon Woodcock (guitar), Darren Martin and Mark Bevin, I have no idea.
UPDATE -
I've since had emails from three or four people who have confirmed that Bridget is running a shop. In the Aq17 piece I referred to I'm Getting Darker; I'd been unable to find it at the time and thought it was probably only available as a promotional item. This is, in fact, the case, but you may be able to find a second hand copy, which is what I have now done.
UPDATE -
The vintage fashion shop run by Bridget and 2 others is What The Butler Wore, based in Waterloo, London. Visit their website: www.whatthebutlerwore.co.uk
