Welcome to Bliss/Aquamarine - alternative, underground and indie music.

EBUS MUSIC

Ebus Music started off as a tape label, releasing various musical projects of Carsten Olbrich (who runs the label), and other bands. The label has since evolved into releasing CDs, and most of the tapes are now deleted. One tape which will be kept available is Fat Girl by Die Traktor, who you may have heard on the Ruby compilation on Bliss. They play a kind of indie-pop-rock with lyrics in English and German.

On the CD side of things, Ebus Music is divided into several sublabels: there's Ebus Music itself, and Audio Noisia, Label Montsalvat, Qualitativus Recordicus and Die Wunschmaschine. I haven't heard anything on the latter label, but have one CD from each of the other labels.

Enem-y have a CDEP on Audio Noisia, called Deepinside. This has three tracks (all running into one long track) of electronic music with quite a dark and sinister feel. Sometimes it's like experimental music, and other times it's closer to dark-wave.

Also in an experimental vein is Slower by Doc Wör Mirran, on Ebus Music. This is the kind of experimental music based on droning sounds, but unlike some experimental artists who use drones to create an unlistenable row, this is a much more atmospheric experience. The label's description is 'glimmering flowing beauty', and that's very appropriate. This CD has just 3 tracks, but a total running time of over 50 minutes.

Mr Ebu is Carsten's solo project, though Cosmic Cool (on Label Montsalvat) also has guest appearances from M Nomized and Mr Moto. Essentially, this is electronic experimentation which incorporates lots of different styles and moods. For example, Base 1 starts with a melody which sounds classical inspired, but in an experimental setting, if you know what I mean, and then turns into a dance track.

Die Traktor is a band featuring Carsten Olbrich, and is very different to his solo stuff. The Thanksgiving CD (on Qualitativus Recordicus) has 6 tracks, somewhere between powerpop and indie-rock, mostly with German lyrics, as well as two songs sung in English.

The Doc Wör Mirran and Mr Ebu CDs are 27,90 DM each; the Enem-y CD is 11,90 DM; Thanksgiving by Die Traktor is 10,90 DM; and Fat Girl by Die Traktor is 5,90 DM. Ebus Music, PO Box 940330, 60489 Frankfurt/M, Germany.
